Job Description

Pennoni Associates, a leading engineering and design consulting firm, is seeking an Associate Environmental Scientist to join the Environmental Division in our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. The successful candidate will be responsible for working under the supervision of Project and Senior staff, in performing various environmental investigations for a variety of public and private sector clients. Duties may include conducting field work, report writing, sampling, and inspection work. Conducting field work in all types of weather and terrain conditions, as well as overnight travel, will be required.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct wetland and waterway delineations
  • Threatened and Endangered Species investigations
  • State and Federal permitting
  • Conduct Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments
  • Preparation of NEPA Clearance Documents
  • Collection and interpretation of field data
  • Report writing
  • Meet project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Field and office support to other environmental and engineering staff, as required

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology or related field is required.
  • Must have between 3-5 years of experience; previous internship experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience working with NEPA documents for transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with PennDOT’s transportation project development process including the PennDOT CE Expert System and PADEP KEES System.
  • Candidate should possess working knowledge of wetlands and streams and have recent experience with state and federal permitting in Pennsylvania.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as individually.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Responsiveness to client and project requests.
  • Ability to work on multiple project assignments concurrently, while adhering to schedules and deliverables.
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • PA Asbestos and Lead Certifications, CADD and/or GIS capabilities are a plus.
  • Oil & Gas pipeline inspection experience a plus.
  • A willingness to learn, work in a team environment and high degree of professionalism and competence in project delivery is essential for success.
